Could captains please forward this round your entire boat clubs as it is important for eveyone to be kept informed.I have just come off the phone to the Environment Agency who have informed me that Red Boards are being displayed at every lock on the Upper Thames and that the likely duration of this situation will be 3-5 days. As a result they have asked that Christ Church Regatta be postponed or cancelled.
At this point in time myself and the other captains are in agreement that tomorrow's racing will be cancelled. Whilst it is highly likely that at least Thursday and Friday's racing will also be cancelled, I will confirm this every day by 5pm. With all the hard work that has been put in ahead of this event we want to salvage what we can of it.
I am very sorry to have to make this announcement as I know that a huge number of people were excited about the event.
Please keep checking your emails for updates and, with a quite considerable amount of luck, we may yet see you at the river.

We have had a fair few emails over the last few days concerning swim tests. To clarify, despite the change in the OURCs rules, Christ Church Regatta's rules, safety plans & insurance policy all clearly state that no-one will be allowed to row in a life-jacket if they fail to take or to pass a swim test. Every competitor must have passed a swim test before they will be allowed to compete. We cannot make exceptions to this.
I have been in touch with Judy at OURCs who has confirmed that another swim test will be booked for Thursday this week & which will be open to all novices who have yet to pass one. Details will follow from OURCs.
If you have novices who have previously failed the swim test my advice would be to get them to the pool for an hour with someone else from the boat club who can help them out with what is normally a confidence issue. THIS DOES WORK.
